Hundreds celebrate an old-fashioned Christmas at Clabber Girl
Museum event
March 24, 2005
Hundreds of visitors were on hand the Saturday
before Christmas to enjoy a new Terre Haute tradition, Country
Christmas at the Clabber Girl Museum, Bake Shop and General Store.
The Museum at 9th and Wabash Streets in downtown
Terre Haute celebrates the history of one of the oldest brands
in America, Clabber Girl
Baking Powder, as well as the art of home baking.
Beautiful
Christmas decorations and carolers strolling throughout the
museum put visitors in the holiday mood. For those with
gifts still to buy, the General Store offered unique items,
many made
in Indiana, and items of interest to the home cook including
cookbooks and hard-to-find gourmet products.
The old-fashioned
holiday celebration featured photos with Santa for the children
and Mrs. Claus reading “The Polar Express” in
the train room. Wabash Valley scenic artist Robert Follett
held an exclusive one-day signing of his last five prints in
the Forrest
Sherer holiday card collection.
It was a record-setting day for the Bake Shop, located in
the middle of the museum, with visitors buying homemade
biscuits, muffins, cookies, brownies and appealing gift
baskets, as
well
as custom-roasted Rex coffee.
MillerWhite LLC handled publicity
for the event, which had two goals – to introduce the
two-year-old museum to a new audience and to establish
a
new Christmas tradition for downtown Terre
Haute. Publicity included posters and flyers, radio spots,
television interviews, newspaper ads
and VIP invitations.
